Welcome to the Lowry Campground in Summit County, Colorado! We are calling this a “lite” campground review because we have not stayed in this campground, so we cannot comment on things like the temperament of the camp hosts or the noise at night. Luckily, we do have video and can offer general comments about the campground.
The Bottom Line:
This was our least favorite of the campgrounds that surround the Dillon Reservoir. The sites were small and very close together. There is no privacy between sites. All of the sites do, however, have electric hookups, which can be difficult to find in Summit County. Site 24 looked like the best site; while site 18 looked like the worst site (it is literally sandwiched between two other sites). Given the choice, we’d prefer camping in Prospector, Peak One, or Heaton Bay.

The Details:
Lowry Campground is located about an hour and a half from Denver, Colorado. It sits in between Frisco and Dillon, with easy access (via car) to both mountain towns. While you could probably bike to these towns (both are less than 15 miles away), it is a bit too far to walk. Although the campground is near the Dillon Reservoir, none of the sites have water views. All of the sites do, however, have beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Colorado at its best!!
There are 27 campsites, 24 of which can accommodate RVs and have electric hookups. Many of the sites can accommodate large rigs. For example, site 7 is a large pull through site. Although the campground has water spigots, none of the sites have water or sewer connections. The remaining 3 sites are walk-in tent sites intended for car campers. Our pick site is site 24, which was somewhat isolated from the other sites and had the most privacy.
The campground has two bathroom facilities with vault toilets. Both looked clean – and had toilet paper – but neither had running water.
Overall, we were not super impressed with this campground. Although it boasts beautiful views of the nearby mountains, the sites were small and very close together. It might be a fun campground if you intend to reserve a few sites and camp with a large group of people. Otherwise, you might feel like you have no privacy, since the sites are essentially on top of each other. This campground is also a good choice if you need electric hookups, because the other nearby campgrounds have either no sites or only a few sites with electric hookups.
Of course, if there are no other sites available, this is a great campground! Because camping in Summit County is better than not camping in Summit County!
